Stillborn Baby

A baby dying is a devastating experience.

A baby is one of the most delicate things in this world.  To see a helpless little baby born without breathing can be a very traumatic experience.  How could something like that happen?  What did I do to deserve this?  The pain that follows can be intense.  If you don't experience it first hand it may be very difficult to understand what a person goes through with a stillborn. No parent wishes to hear, nor discover that their baby has died. It is difficult to even describe how parents may feel at that instant. All range of emotions can be present, disbelief, shock, guilt, immense emotional pain, and feeling like their heart is breaking.

Parents can hardly function at times like this but there are some important decisions that need to be made.  Make sure you take lots of pictures.  You only get one chance, so take advantage of your opportunity.  It may be very difficult to see your child in this situation but you can always get the photos touched up with a different background or whatever. Taking pictures will help enormously with their grieving process.

There will be many other decisions that need to be made.  Some are stillbirth memorial, registration stillbirth, and whether or not to take stillbirth picture. Try not to allow relatives and friends to automatically make arrangements for you. It may be that they want to help, and that is OK if you accept it, but they should ask you first. If you are feeling unsure, just let them know that you will tell them if and when you need anything done. Taking time to be with your feelings, talking with your partner, family, friends or your caregivers can give you support and direction at this time. Most hospitals have special staff (usually social workers) who are experienced in supporting parents after the death of their child, and who will provide the information that you need to help you make the appropriate choices you feel comfortable with.

Photographs of stillborn infants and newborns who don’t make it home from the hospital are usually very difficult to look at, and are usually the only image that the parents have of their child. Through this free service, our skilled digital artists work with a digital copy of your original, eliminating medical equipment, removing unsightly marks and even replacing the background if desired.
